Math
The goal of the Saxon Math program in all grades is to provide incremental, distributed, and cumulative practice. Students are given a small concept to practice before adding the next step. Distributing the skills across the school year gives students time to practice and master them. The cumulative practice for homework and tests holds students accountable for every lesson from the beginning of the year. This program has been a success at Saint Robert Bellarmine School, helping to improve test scores and math confidence.
In this class, students master dividing fractions. By the end of sixth grade, students are expected to perform all operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals. We’ll also start using negative numbers! Problem solving skills become more developed through real-world problems involving ratios and rates, as well as writing and using algebraic expressions and equations. Saxon math prepares students for Algebra at every grade level.
