Kindergarten Provides a bridge between pre-school and elementary school. St. Robert Bellarmine Kindergarten provides young students not only academic skills but also social, physical and emotional growth. Students are taught values that they carry with them wherever they go.
They are taught writing strategies, phonemic awareness, reading/comprehension and creative writing. Academic development is systematically provided through vocabulary development poetry, rhymes, mathematical reasoning, and critical thinking.
On a typical day in my kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten class students start the day by joining Morning Assembly with traditional prayers that were introduced to us by our ancestors. Communal prayers, petitions and Bible Passages and Prayers of Thanksgiving unite us with God and we become one big happy family. Students get the opportunity to lead prayer during Morning Assembly and Outdoor Mass.
Students are provided with tools to create exciting projects that consist of canvas painting, abstract art using shapes, water colors, acrylics and playdough.
Transitional Kindergarteners are given opportunities for growth in small and large motor skills. They learn through play and join the kindergarteners, to complete their math and writing assignments.
In the field of Social and Emotional Development TK students are taught how to share ideas in two different ways: written communication through art and writing and by speaking clearly.
Music is very much a daily routine in my kindergarten class, students dance, move to the music and learn that rhythm creates movement, they are encouraged to imagine and be expressive. We sing, dance and wrap up each day with a prayer and a patriotic song. Students carry the American Flag and sing the praises of America the Beautiful.
Since the beginning of the school year 2020/2021 we have been providing instruction virtually. Clear and accurate instructions are provided using tools such as large posters, and white boards. Mystery Science, virtual library visits, Wonders Big Books enhance each day with exciting projects, beautiful stories that encourage my students high level of thinking.
Weekly Math, Reading and Spelling Written Assessments and STAR Assessments are conducted periodically to help monitor my students’ growth. Virtual Reading Fluency is provided weekly and while development in effective speaking and communicating skills are provided through discussions and Show and Tell.
Pastor, Principal, parents, students and teacher work together to make the school year an amazing educational journey.
